Temporary Site Electrical Services since 1998...
Welcome to the Multitech August 2017 news.
It’s hard to believe a year has passed since we wrote about Olympic successes and to realise that iconic athletes such as Mo Farrah and Usain Bolt will no longer grace us with their presence at future international track and field events. However, these changes will make way for new talent to shine, new records to be set and new inspirations to surface.
Last month was exceptional for Multitech, in fact the best August on record, with targets being met and the order book looking very healthy with projects that will see us well into 2018. September is shaping up nicely too with UK daylight saving fast approaching prompting temporary site lighting orders to increase along with new enquiries for temporary site electrical services.
We recommend that you order site lighting as soon as you can to avoid potential longer delivery and installation times as we get closer to the clocks changing on 29th October. To place an order for projects in London and the South East call Head Office on 01371 877 060. For the Midlands and the North call our Wellingborough Office on 01933 226 889.
New specialist temporary site electrical plant has arrived and is ready for delivery by our fleet which will soon be increased by four new customised vehicles that are currently on order. A new addition to our vehicle fleet was recently delivered in the shape of an open back delivery truck. This has apparently brought back memories for some of rag and bone days; “ring any bells?” ha, ha. Guess that’s something we’ll have to ‘iron’ out internally.
Construction News recently reported that the largest 10 contractors posted a combined turnover of £31.9bn but with a combined pre-tax loss of £52.9m. Sir John Armitt has subsequently highlighted that the problem of UK leading construction and development companies working on profit margins of just 2%...in a good year!
For Lord Adonis to respond by saying that the same contractors are making lots of money and that margins had simply been “cut down to size” in our opinion is completely unhelpful.
Multitech has the privilege of working with many of the leading contractors and recognise the fragility and risk we are all at when profit margins and profits are so low or non-existent. This is neither healthy or sustainable for any business. Here’s hoping that Sir John Armitt’s call for “fundamental change” is heard.
Mayweather v McGregor
We could not compile this month’s news without mentioning the biggest sporting spectacle on the planet this year.
In our view this was always going to be just that a “spectacle“ and not a realistic pugilistic contest !
But that did not matter one bit, the Money Team TMT and UFC hype machines went into maximum overdrive and created unprecedented amount of interest across the world along with a plague of boxing experts in every bar and pub across the land.
It came as absolutely no surprise that Mayweather won the bout with ease after carrying McGregor through many of the rounds until such time as he deemed it acceptable to up the ante in the ninth and force a stoppage in the tenth round. It has to be said that Connor McGregor, whilst very accomplished in his own discipline of MMA, does not possess the boxing skills required to enter the squared circle with any real credibility (despite what his supporters believe). In terms of his boxing the best we can say is that the boxes up to a good amateur level.
That said, in our opinion, before the fight he was already a winner by virtue of being able to talk himself into this mega fight, with a record number of pay per views and pay day of over $100 million with a further $300 million going to Mayweather - good work if you can get it!
We cannot help but wonder what Lord Adonis thinks about these margins !!
If you want to see a real fight, between two truly outstanding boxers we recommend tuning in to watch the Gennady Golovkin, Saul Canelo Alvarez fight on Saturday 16th September, 3am UK time - our money is on Golovkin.
Although previously losing to Mayweather, many consider Canelo to have superior skills compared to Golovkin plus Canelo is younger. Contrary to popular belief, we don't think Golovkin is on the slide, quite the contrary. Here’s 10 reasons we’re backing the undefeated Golovkin (there are 27 others too!):
Our trainees spent the past few weeks working through their workbooks and are about to start technical college. Multitech have always championed apprenticeships and earlier this year Multitech became members of the 5% club, an initiative committed to transforming the futures of young people in the UK and a membership which we take very seriously.
Since inception in 1998 Multitech has run training programmes to help ensure future skills for our industry - our endorsement and membership of the 5% Club then comes as no surprise.
If you, or if you know of anyone that would like to be considered for the Multitech Electrician Training Programme please visit our Becoming an Electrician page.
And we’re hiring! Following a successful recruitment drive during the Summer, only a few vacancies are still available across various regions. To find out more please visit our Careers Page
Congratulations to all the Multitech employees who recently completed various charity events and challenges including Jo & Glen Rumbelow who were part of a team that completed a London to Paris bike ride. We are now preparing for Jeans for Genes Day and the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support on 29th September.
So amidst dubious reports about an Indian Summer due to scorch the UK during September, along with contradicting forecasts of winds and storms, here’s hoping for only good things during September!
