The Carlton Tower Jumeirah Hotel, London

Main contractor: Beck

Project value: £100 million

Start:

Completion: Summer 2021

Having successfully worked together on similar projects in the past, we were appointed by Beck to install and maintain temporary services for the refurbishment of the luxury The Carlton Tower Jumeirah Hotel in Knightsbridge. The works created a new foyer and reception, 186 enlarged bedrooms and suites, a new health club and spa with London’s largest naturally lit swimming pool, hospitality facilities and meeting rooms. To avoid closing the hotel for longer than necessary, works had to be completed as quickly as possible, requiring detailed planning with the client’s site team to prioritise tasks and ensure completion without interruptions.

Details

The central London location required all deliveries to adhere to a precise booking schedule and moving materials within the 19-storey structure with limited lift capacity posed challenges our team needed to overcome. The new regulations regarding safe working environments during COVID also required amendments to the original designs to accommodate new facilities for contractor welfare throughout the building, with a 50mm rising boosted water main installed to maintain pressure to the top floor.

Our good working relationship with the client from previous projects facilitated open communications at all times, allowing a good flow of information and quick reaction times to required changes. As works progressed, our team visited the site regularly to advise on design loadings and cabling routes, recommending optimal solutions based on experience to mitigate any potential future issues.
